Felony Battery occurs when an individual actually and intentionally strikes another person against their will. Also, when they intentionally cause bodily harm on the individual. Battery can be a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on the severity of the crime.

Aggravated Battery is knowingly or intentionally causing great harm, permanent disability, permanent disfigurement or uses a deadly weapon.

Assault

Assault is the unlawful threat by word or act to do a violent act to do a violent act to another person, when the person threatening has a reasonable ability to actually commit the acts. Assault is typically a misdemeanor.

Aggravated Assault, however, is a threat with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill, or with the intent to commit a felony. This will typically be punishable as a third degree felony.
